While it's incredibly straightforward in operation, I'm looking for a
manual for Audio Design Associates' (ADA) RFD-1 Dolby Digital RF
Demodulator. Multiple queries to the manufacturer have yielded no
response.

Anyone that has an extra copy or is willing to scan theirs, please let
me know; I'd greatly appreciate it.

(re: ADA RFD-1 )
A post back in December of 2001 by Jeff Rife suggests this is the
case. Should be easier to track down a Pioneer manual as it was a
fairly popular unit. Thought LDDb had some of this documentation, but
couldn't find anything there regarding hardware... maybe that section
was removed?

can it be a pioneer internally? the chassis is definitely different.
the ada one being a wide rack-mountable unit. plus the jacks on the
pioneer are rf in, opt and coax in/out. whereas the ada only has rf in
and coax out.

Huh, could be. Seems odd that ADA might have bought autswitching
boards but not make that function available, so maybe it's not the
Pioneer unit. There used to be a few demodulator experts lurking
here, maybe someone else will chime in with expertise.
If it helps, here's a couple photos of the internals for my own RFD-1,
if you want to open yours to compare:

At top from left to right: power in (not part of board), RF in, SP/DIF
coax in, SP/DIF optical in, SP/DIF coax out, SP/DIF optical out.

A description of AC-3 demods I wrote about 6 years ago along with the
block diagram (ASCII art :-) of Pioneer's RFD-1 is here:

That file needs to be read/viewed using a fixed-width font.

i'll crack it open this weekend and compare your pics to what's inside
mine.

my primary reason for wanting the manual is for an explanation. on
the ada unit there's an on/off 'dc input mute' switch; is this for
preventing a noise from occurring on some surround processors when the
dd signal is first picked up?

well i opened it up. the circuit board is laid out differently than
the pioneer rfd-1 pics from cyclograph. my camera died on the one
photo i took. i'm recharging now, and i'll take some hi-res shots
later.

anyone know of a good free site where i can post them?
