Hi all

Last week i won a 20 disc laserdisc jukebox that plays 8" music video
discs.

Im just wondering if any one in the forum owns a similar player. If
so:

1) How reliable are these items?
2) Are there service manuals?
3) Are there any good jukebox forums that people know of to get advice?
4) Is there any catalogue/database of music videos that was produced
for this jukebox?

Cheers,
Alex

Well, I suppose that it would also play 20cm LaserDiscs with something
other than music videos on them. It's probably fair to say that does
represent the bulk of the small-size releases, though. As far as a
catalogue of releases, I don't know how you would distinguish discs
released specifically for this machine (if any -- I'd think they would
use standard catalogue releases), but LDDb.com is the first place I'd
look for any kind of LD info.
I've never seen any kind of LD multichanger in action, but it seems
an intriguing item. I'd expect it to have about the same mechanical
reliability issues as a CD jukebox and a normal LD player averaged [not
added] together, but that's just speculation. Would this be the item
listed at the bottom of the "laserdiscarchive.co.uk" Pioneer page as
"Laser Juke (Unknown Model)"?

Wow.. That actually sounds quite cool. I doubt it would be as nostalgic
as some people having a '45s' JukeBox in their 'game room', but certainly a
technical rarity. Maybe it was used in Back To The Future II ;-)

Anyway .. I've got an 8" copy of the Terminator II SE trailer if you're
interested in having that in there.

Hi no it isn't this is a newer machine manufactured in 1990 in Japan. I
found a picture of it at this website
http://www.jukebox-world.de/Forum/Archiv/PioneerLaserJuke.htm. Too bad
this website is in german.

When i get around too it i will send pictures of the unit to the
laserdisc archive with a list of 8" inch music laser discs that i have
for it. I currently have about 60 discs for it. The previous owner use
to maintain 3 of them in clubs and pubs and found more discs for the
unit than the original 20 that it had, so i bought these from him as
well. I have found more discs for it also on ebay just by scanning the
laserdisc category - genre music.

The unit came with a service/operator manual and i have it had it up
and running for a week. So far so good. I just need to sort out
servicing and spare parts which im hoping the previous owner can help
me with.

The mechanics of the unit are awesome to watch in action on how it
moves up and down to select a disc, clamps it on the side and then
flips it over to the side which matches your jukebox selection. Video
quality is very average especially compared to my CLD-D99. Sound is
excellent as i have the built in jukebox 60+60W RMS amp feeding a pair
of Boston VR970 that i purchased recently.
