Pioneer CLD-D925 problem

I have a problem with my Pioneer CLD-D925 laserdisc player that I'm
hoping someone will be able to help me with.

One of the small gear parts that moves the laser unit seems to have
cracked, and I'm hoping to somehow be able to replace it.

Does anyone know if there's a way of getting a hold of such a part
somewhere?

I have put a couple of pictures of the culprit on the following page, in
the hope that someone will be able to help:

Hi

You should be able to get the part(s) from an Authorized Pioneer Service
Center. The partnumber of the gear driven directly by the wormgear on the
motor is VNL1638. The part number of the second larger gear is VNL1639. The
worm gear on the motor is not available as a separate part; you have to
replace the motor (partnumber VXX2082).

If Pioneer cannot supply the part(s), but you still have all the bits and
pieces, try superglueing it together again. If that is not possible, getting
the parts from another defective CLD-D925 is the only option.

Hi Nico,

Thank you very much for providing me with the part numbers. I've now
been able to write to Pioneer and ask if they can track down a spare
part for me.

I'm not sure I completely understand your description of the parts,
though. Are you saying that the part that's broken can't be bought by
itself and that I need to replace the whole motor, or is my broken part
not the VNL1639?

Why don't you take a picture of the pieces and we can identify what you
need. I very common problem with these is that the holder that holds the
motor and gears has small pins sticking out that the gears go onto. These
break frequently and then the gear free floats and will not always engage.
This is a different part from the gears.

Hi,

Sorry about the confusion. Although I looked at the photo's you provided,
but could not spot the problem at first. (Usually it is gears with teeth
missing). I had a second look, and I think I've spotted it now. The holder
for the gears and motor (the grey colored part) is broken and has cracks.
This part should be available from Pioneer as well, it has part number
VNL1700. It's description is "M Holder".

If Pioneer cannot supply the part, consider picking up a broken CLD-D515,
CLD-S315 or CLD-S310. AFAIK they have the same laserpickup, although I'm not
100% sure.

Hope this helps,

Nico.
